Itinerary
Day One
Leaving the local area in the morning we travel to Newcastle for our overnight sailing to Amsterdam.
Day Two
Our ship arrives in Amsterdam at 0930hrs, and from there we'll continue to Germany. Once we reach our hotel you're free to relax, or join our optional excursion to Koblenz. Though dominated by the imposing mass of the mighty Ehrenbreitstein fortress on the far bank, this very much a cosmopolitan town - visitors from all over the world wander its riverside promenades. Soak up the atmosphere before we return to our hotel in the afternoon.
Day Three
Today is free to relax, though many will want to join our full-day optional excursion to medieval Cochem. Discover its narrow streets and twisting alleys, dominated by the towering, 1,000-year-old Reichsburg Castle. See the historic 'Senfmuhle', the last remaining mustard mill in Europe, and enjoy lunch (payable locally) before we head to Bernkastel-Kues.
Straddling the river, this twin town is best known for its wonderful market square. After time to explore, the afternoon ends with a visit to a local 'weinkeller', where the distinct brown-bottled local Riesling can be sampled, before we return to the hotel.
Day Four
Spend today relaxing, or join our full-day optional excursion. Cruise along perhaps the most famous stretch of river in the world, passing quaint villages, fairytale castles and beneath the legendary Lorelei (where sirens were said to lure unsuspecting sailors to their end), and visit traditional Rhineland Ruedesheim. Here the famous Drosselgasse bustles with life, lined with flower-decked weinstuben and restaurants where you can sample local wine and 'Asbach' brandy before we return to our hotel.
Day Five
Today we retrace our steps to Amsterdam and board our overnight DFDS Seaways' sailing, stopping for lunch in fascinating Cologne if time permits.
Day Six
Our ship arrives in Newcastle at 0900hrs, and once back in the UK, we'll make our way to the local area by coach.
Further Information
Optional meals
Take full advantage of the famous hospitality of the Rhine and Moselle regions, and upgrade to half-board accommodation and enjoy a three-course meal each evening at your hotel. (N.B. Depending on your time of arrival at the hotel on Day One, your first meal may be a cold buffet.)
Hand luggage
Due to space restrictions on the ship we advise you to pack clothes, toiletries and any belongings you are likely to need on board into a small overnight bag. The remainder of your luggage will stay with the coach, and cannot be accessed during the sailing.
