Itinerary
Day One
Leaving the local area, early this morning we'll journey to Yorkshire. The first highlight of the weekend will be a short visit to the Pennine town of Holmfirth - stomping ground of Foggy, Clegg and the late Compo, in the popular TV series 'Last of the Summer Wine'. We will then continue to our overnight hotel, arriving in good time to relax and unpack before dinner.
Day Two
This morning we'll visit the ever-popular Oswaldtwistle Mills. Explore its wild-fowl reserve and textile museum, and its enormous and fascinating range of retail outlets, before continuing to Southport.
With its glorious sandy beaches, Victorian Pier, beautiful parks and shops Southport has something for everyone. Enjoy lunch (payable locally), "stroll along the prom prom prom", wander around the Model Railway Museum or visit the world's only Lawnmower Museum before we head back to our hotel in the late afternoon.
Day Three
Today will reveal the breathtaking beauty of the Lake District. This landscape of majestic mountain scenery, flawless lakes and lush valleys is as varied and beautiful as any in the world, and really is stunning whatever the weather.
We'll stop for lunch and time to explore in charming Bowness-on-Windermere, before continuing through the village of Ambleside, past Rydal Water, to Grasmere, one time home of Wordsworth, before heading north through the little village of Troutbeck, up and over dramatic Kirkstone Pass to Patterdale at the head of Ullswater. We'll finish our tour at Penrith and return to our hotel along the motorway.
Day Four
After breakfast we'll head home via the beautiful city of Chester. Explore the famous Rows - galleried tiers of shops dating back to medieval times; visit the fine sandstone cathedral; walk the city walls; or simply relax in a tea shop and watch the world go by. We'll leave Chester in the early afternoon, arriving in your local area by mid to late evening.
