Itinerary
Day One
Leaving the local area in the morning we travel to Dover or Folkestone for our Channel crossing. Arriving in France, we'll continue to our overnight hotel in the German Rhineland, arriving in the mid to late evening.
Day Two
After breakfast, we'll leave the hotel and continue our journey to Austria, arriving at our hotel for dinner and the start of our 'true' Christmas break.
Day Three (Christmas Eve)
Spend Christmas Eve enjoying our included excursion to the wonderful city of Salzburg - birthplace of Mozart and setting for the celebrated musical 'The Sound of Music'.
The Christmas markets and shops will be open this morning, giving you the perfect opportunity to purchase last-minute gifts and souvenirs, before a quiet dinner and the invitation to attend Mass at the local church.
Day Four (Christmas Day)
Will you awaken to a white Christmas? We can't guarantee it, but there's more chance in Austria than at home. Enjoy an optional horse-drawn sleigh ride and a warming glass of gluehwein, and in the evening celebrate with a traditional Christmas dinner.
Day Five (Boxing Day)
Spend Boxing Day relaxing or exploring your surroundings on foot. Alternatively, join our optional Lakes and Christmas Markets excursion, and visit the enchanting lakeside villages of St Gilgen, Strobl and St Wolfgang.
St Gilgen, also called 'Mozartvillage' because Mozart's mother was born here, boasts a traditional market square where you'll find a Christmas market selling local produce, arts and crafts. Our next stop is Strobl. Every Austrian home is
traditionally decorated with a 'Krippe' (nativity scene) over the Christmas period and the village of Strobl has a whole museum dedicated to 'Krippen' from all over the world.
Boarding a lake cruiser we'll finish our excursion with a 30-minute voyage to St Wolfgang across Lake Wolfgang, itself festively decorated with floating stars and torches. St Wolfgang has attracted tourists for many years, and is particularly beautiful at this time of the year.
Days Six & Seven
We say goodbye to Austria on Day Six, and travel north. After a final overnight stop in Germany, we'll cross France and the Channel once again, and continue our journey to the local area after a truly wonderful Christmas break.
