See the maples of Westonbirt
Forget 'New' England - you can enjoy a feast of autumnal colour much closer to home. This great-value break includes a visit to the National Arboretum at Westonbirt, Gloucestershire, where the famed Japanese maples and 18,000 other trees blaze with colours from burnt oranges to glowing clarets and golds.
Single rooms are available for a supplement
Leaving the local area in the early morning we'll journey to beautiful Bath. See the restored Roman Baths and Museum, the Abbey and Assembly Rooms, the elegant Royal Crescent, the Circus and famous Pulteney Bridge - and take advantage of the city's fantastic shopping - before we continue to our overnight hotel.
Today's highlight is our visit to the National Arboretum at Westonbirt. One of the world's most spectacular collections of trees, this 600-acre sanctuary is home to plants from all over the world. During our guided walk, our guide will reveal the beauty and complexity of the trees, and provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of the Holford family, who founded the Arboretum in the 19th Century.
After a fascinating visit, we'll head for home, enjoying a short drive through the Cotswolds (time permitting) en route, and returning to the local area by early to mid evening.
